Tartarus?

 2 Peter 2:4

For if God didn't spare angels when they sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and committed them to pits of darkness to be reserved for judgement;...

 Tartarus.  What is it?  Where is it?

The Bible only has one (1) entry for this place, Tartarus.  Strong's #G5020, tar-tar-o'-o, from the Greek, Tartaros (the deepest abyss of Hades); to incarcerate in eternal torment: - cast down to hell.

It is strange to me that Peter speaks of Tartarus as if the reader understood what he was talking about.  He didn't explain what Tartarus was.  This word, translated "hell" in most Bible versions, is ONLY found in this one verse, 2 Peter 2:4.  Why?  

Perhaps the ancient world Peter was addressing knew exactly what and where Tartarus was.  Perhaps it was common knowledge.  Hmmm...  Let's take a look, shall we?

In Greek mythology, Tartarus (/ˈtɑːrtərəs/; Ancient Greek: Τάρταρος, Tartaros) is the deep abyss that is used as a dungeon of torment and suffering for the wicked and as the prison for the Titans.

Okay, that lines up to the Biblical understanding.  Peter was speaking to a Greek world, so they would be familiar with this mention of Tartarus.  But is that all it is?  Just a "mythological" dungeon of torment and suffering?  I don't think so.  Check this out:

 

Now, I have questions.... And a theory based on the name of a kingdom, Tartaria, from the map above.

I understand maps weren't perfect back then (debatable), but Tartaria is CLEARLY seen on this map in place of Russia and Siberia.  Just do a search on ancient maps of Tartaria or Tartarys, or Tartary, and you will find several, if not hundreds, of maps that span the whole world.  I believe the map above is from 1500-1600s.  There is no date, but I did find another map from 1688 that showed a similar location of Tartaria.

This is my theory on Tartaria and Tartarus.

In the passage in 2 Peter 2, Peter is writing about judgements, beginning with the angels that sinned.  These angels were cast in to Tartarus.  Next on Peter's list is Noah's flood.

Hmmm...

The list goes on to include Sodom and Gomorrha.

This leads me to the conclusion that the list is in chronological order.  Angels cast into Tartarus happened well before the flood, but after they were made to watch their offspring kill each other off.  Think Clash of the Titans.  Here is Rob Skiba explaining Genesis 6, the angel incursion that happened there, what happened to their offspring, and why it hasn't happened since.

So, my thoughts from here lead me to the idea that after the flood, Noah, his wife, his sons and their wives, dispersed throughout the new world.  There are genealogical proofs that Japheth, one of Noah's three sons, settled in what is now known as Russia and Siberia.

Gen 10:2  The sons of Japheth: Gomer and Magog and Madai and Javan and Tubal and Meshech and Tiras. 

Gen 10:3  And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz and Riphath and Togarmah. 

Gen 10:4  And the sons of Javan: Elishah and Tarshish, Kittim and Dodanim. 

Gen 10:5  By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands, each one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations. 

There is evidence pointing to Moscow as the settling place of Meshech.  

Note Magog.  

Rev 20:7  And after the thousand years, Satan will be released from his prison, 

Rev 20:8  and he will come out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to the war; the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 

Romanized Jewish historian Josephus knew them as the nation descended from Magog the Japhetite, as in Genesis, and explained them to be the Scythians. In the hands of Early Christian writers they became apocalyptic hordes, and throughout the Medieval period variously identified as the Vikings, Huns, Khazars, Mongols, Turanians or other nomads, or even the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel.  from Wikipedia.

The Scythians, as it turns out, look to be connected to Ashkenaz.  I'll speak more about that in a minute.

It can be argued, that the KJV mistranslated "Gog and Magog" in Revelation 20, and that it should read, "Gog of Magog."  This would make Gog a possible Antichrist figure, which, the more I read about Tartaria I wouldn't be surprised.  

Eze 38:1  Yahweh’s word came to me, saying, 

Eze 38:2  “Son of man, set your face toward Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 

Eze 38:3  and say, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “Behold, I am against you, Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. 

Now, Rosh, is the precursor for Russia.

Rosh was in what is now northern Russia. The name Rosh is the basis for the modern name Russia. Magog, Meshech, and Tubal initially settled in Turkey and Central Asia (the republics of the former Soviet Union) and some later migrated north into southern Russia.  from Oxford Bible Church.

 

As it turns out, with the evidence for a recent "Mud Flood," Tartaria may have been destroyed by this cataclysm.  My guess, and that's all it is, is that there was once a mountain, Mount Meru, some call it, at the Northern Pole.  This mountain must have been a volcano, but not one that spewed lava, only one that basically vomited up a lot of mud.  See the evidence from old maps like this one: 

See how California is an island?  This leads me to believe that this Mud Flood actually filled in the waterway between the island and the mainland.  Look at an aerial map of California today:

The valley between San Francisco and the Sierra Nevada Mountains looks like it could have been filled in with a lot of sediment.  Looking at old/ancient maps is fascinating!  I was actually watching a Dutchsince video this morning where he was pointing out recent earthquakes and predicting new ones.  His predictions are very accurate.  

When watching his video, I noticed how shallow and flat the valley is there in California, and it made me think of the Mud Flood.  Very interesting.  I don't think the ancient cartographers got it wrong.  I think the world changed.

So, I believe the angels bound in Tartarus were thrown down to the earth and put in chains of darkness beneath the earth.  I believe the Flood of Noah washed away any evidence left behind by the Fallen Ones and their offspring (except maybe the dinosaurs).  I believe Japheth and his descendants settled in modern Turkey, Russia and Siberia.  I believe these descendants named the country Tartarus to honor the Fallen Ones.  I believe there may have been a north pole mountain, Mount Meru, that erupted and sank, causing the Great Mud Flood.  

This Mount Meru is also called Su-Meru, which sounds a lot like Sumer.  Sumer is said to have been where modern-day Iran is.  However, a look at ancient maps will prove Tartaria covered a very large area.  It is likely the largest civilization that ever existed.  Because it is said to have been in mesopotamia, and Su-Meru sounds so much like Sumer, this is actually causing me to think Meru may have been a man-made structure, something like the Tower of Babel.  

However, the Tower of Babel is much more ancient than this Mud Flood.  Could it be that Su-Meru was the remains of the Tower, and that all peoples knew of the mountain as the sacred place where their languages were divided?  The Mud Flood could, therefore, be the finished judgement on the Sumerian tower.

I believe there is a cover up by the governments of the world (not sure why) to hide Tartaria, and so many other things, from us.

Gen 2:10  A river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it was parted, and became the source of four rivers.

The map above sure does look like it could be Eden, based on Genesis 2:10, doesn't it? 

The rabbit hole goes ever deeper.
